My Miracle Child

In 2007, at the age of 29, I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. What was to follow was a journey of stressful and trying chemo and radiation treatments, followed by 5 years of preventative medication. It was a challenging period in my life, but my family and my own positivity kept me on course. However, life has its own twists and turns. I was soon to meet my “knight in shining armour”, who swept me off my feet, and after an exciting few months we were married and living in Dubai!

Upon our return to settle in South Africa, we yearned to start a family. However, we were advised that pregnancy was a risky option for me, and that it was more important to focus on my own health. It was also pointed out to me that I had no follicles or viable eggs as a result of the chemotherapy. Was I in for a surprise?!! In November 2013, after 10 tests to confirm the fact, I discovered that I was pregnant, despite being told that I would never have a child merely 5 months previously! Today our bundle of joy has just turned three. Although Madison knows how much we love her, when she is older she will digest the story, and realise EXACTLY how special she is, “God’s gift to us”, our miracle baby!
